Stephen N. Greenleaf, Esq.
Senior Associate Attorney
Stephen (Steve) Greenleaf joined the Pinder Plotkin roster of attorneys in October of 2018. Steve comes to the firm with nearly 40 years of experience as a lawyer.
Steve is a native of Iowa and received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Iowa. After graduation and serving a one-year judicial clerkship, Steve was admitted to practice in Illinois and practiced for three years in Champaign. In 1983 he returned to Iowa City and began practicing there. He practiced in Iowa City of 29 years in what became the firm of Lynch, Greenleaf & Michael, LLP. In 2012, Steve and his wife went to India, where his wife worked as a professional development trainer under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State. After two years in India, he and his wife went to Suzhou, China, and then in 2014, to Bucharest, Romania, where his wife served as an EAL teacher at international schools. During this time abroad, Steve worked for an Indian law firm that marketed outsourcing services to the U.S. and other English-speaking jurisdictions and as an English-language writer, editor, and teacher for an international law firm in Bucharest, Romania. During his time in China, he worked as a freelance lawyer, researching and writing appellate and trial court briefs, motions, and memorandums.
In early 2018, Steve took and passed the Maryland out-of-state attorney examination and was admitted to practice in Maryland. Steve and his wife located in Baltimore to be closer to their two adult daughters.
Steve was delighted to accept a position with Pinder Plotkin because it allowed him to return to a position which he’d enjoyed in over three decades of the practice of law on behalf of individuals, businesses, and municipalities. “When I discussed this opportunity with Jason [Plotkin], I realized that I’d be able to apply the skills that I’d honed in my earlier practice. While I kept active in the law during our six years living abroad, I’d missed the opportunity to work with clients and to use my skills as a courtroom practitioner. The opportunity to work again in the fields of personal injury, work comp, and benefits (Social Security, disability insurance, etc.) that I enjoy also prompted me to jump at this opportunity.”
When Steve is not working, he enjoys reading, public affairs, and trying to keep fit. He remains an avid Hawkeye fan.
