Baltimore County recorded yet another fatality following a traffic collision in Pikesville. The auto-pedestrian collision in Pikesville took place during the early hours of Friday, September 24th. The pedestrian was reportedly walking across the roadway when the accident happened.
In a press release, the Maryland State Police said that shortly before 2:50 a.m., troopers with the Golden Ring Barrack responded to the southbound Interstate 83 north of Northern Parkway for a motor vehicle crash report. The preliminary investigation conducted revealed that a Range Rover traveled south in the left lane of Interstate 83.
The vehicle then struck a pedestrian who was walking across the road from the median. The victim, identified as 26-year-old Gleb Volkov of New York, New York, sustained severe injuries and the Baltimore County paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. The Range Rover driver remained at the scene.
The MSP also disclosed that shortly before they received the report of the accident, at about 2:30 a.m., a rideshare driver northbound on the interstate called 911 to report an unruly and suspected intoxicated passenger. The report noted that the passenger physically assaulted the driver and tried to get him off the road.
The rideshare driver then pulled over at I-83 at Ruxton Road, and the passenger fled the vehicle. Troopers contacted the driver who described the passenger, and the description matched that of the accident victim. The investigation into the accident remains ongoing.
Dangerous road behavior is a contributing factor to road accidents. If a collision happens, the negligent driver would be the fault party and pay compensation to the victim. The settlement covers economic and non-economic damages.
