Whenever the police respond to a head-on crash, they tend to expect the worst. This is especially true when the crash happens on a busy highway, where people are driving 55-65 mph. The people involved in the accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries or even death. Sadly, this was the case this past week after a head-on collision in Bel Air, Maryland.
At about 2:30 pm on Friday afternoon, a car was traveling on Route 136 in Bel Air, Maryland. The crash happened just north of Route 543. For some reason, the driver lost control of the car and crossed over the center line. They continued to speed right into oncoming traffic on the opposite side of the road.
The car ended up crashing head-on into a dump truck that was traveling on the other side of the road. The impact of the crash was so severe that the person driving the car was killed and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the dump truck managed to escape without injury.
The accident was so severe, there was debris all over the highway. It took crews almost 7 hours to clean up the scene. In fact, the Interstate remained closed until after 9 pm.
Hartford County police are still investigating the crash. Typically, when we see a head-on accident, it tends to involve either speeding or impairment. However, there has been no indication as of yet that this was the case here. For now, the authorities have no idea what caused the driver to lose control of their vehicle in the first place.
The victim’s name has not yet been released. Nor has the make and model of their car.
