A seventeen-year-old boy was killed by a thirteen-year-old friend in a Charles County shooting on Christmas night. The victim died at the hospital, deputies with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.
Diane Richardson, Public Information Officer for the sheriff’s office, informed in a release on December 26 that officers went to Mattingly Avenue in Indian Head after they got a report of a shooting around 6:45 p.m.
According to the first investigation, seventeen-year-old Edwin Roberto Rivera Juarez was inside the home with two other teenage relatives. They were handling a gun. The gun went off in the hands of a thirteen-year-old, Richardson said.
Juarez ended up with one shot in his upper body and was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives are investigating the incident to gather more information, including how the boys got access to the gun. The police will review the case with the Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office after the investigation is complete.
The sheriff’s office is clear that gun owners should lock their firearms at all times.
The police ask anyone with additional information about the Charles County shooting to call Detective E. Weaver at (301) 609-6571.
