One person was killed in an Airpark Road head-on collision that happened late Sunday night, March 28, the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue crews said.
The collision happened about 10:30 p.m. on Airpark Road near Muncaster Mill Road in Gaithersburg. The police closed the roads for several hours during the night for the crash investigation. The roads were opened again around 5:30 a.m.
The Montgomery County Police Department got a report on Monday that a twenty-seven-year-old man was killed in the crash. After the preliminary investigation by Montgomery County’s Crash Reconstruction Team, the detectives determined that a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta was going west on Airpark Road and was approaching Muncaster Mill Road. A 2019 Isuzu dump truck continued going east on Airpark Road past Muncaster Mill.
For unknown reasons, the Jetta left the road, went in the air and smashed into the dump truck in the eastbound lane of Airpark Road.
The driver of the dump truck who was identified as twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Darien Jack of Olney was taken to a local hospital with injuries that aren’t life-threatening. The dump truck’s passenger, twenty-seven-year-old Jack Tyler Wert of Damascus, was also taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The police confirmed that Wert died later that night.
Seventeen-year-old Ryan Alexander Yoder from Olney, who was driving the Jetta, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
The police are investigating the Airpark Road head-on collision, and anyone with information about how it happened, should contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.
